Associate Director, Regulatory Compliance

The Associate Director, Regulatory Compliance plays a key role in managing compliance and financial operations for political and advocacy-focused clients. This position oversees complex reporting requirements, provides strategic guidance on compliance matters, and ensures all financial activity aligns with federal and state regulations. The ideal candidate has deep experience in campaign finance, PAC compliance, or political committee reporting, with a strong understanding of FEC and state-level filing requirements. This role requires an independent, highly organized professional who is comfortable managing a client portfolio, supporting colleagues, and serving as a trusted resource on compliance best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a portfolio of political, advocacy, or issue-focused clients, serving as their primary compliance and financial management partner. Oversee accounts payable, payroll, bookkeeping, and financial operations for assigned clients. Prepare, review, and reconcile FEC and state campaign finance reports, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory adherence. Provide strategic guidance on regulatory requirements, reporting timelines, and compliance best practices. Troubleshoot complex compliance or financial issues and escalate as needed. Review team members' work products, including budgets, reports, and filings, to ensure accuracy and adherence to compliance standards. Support team members with questions related to FEC rules, state reporting nuances, and compliance processes. Advise on compliance considerations related to fundraising, communications, expenditures, and organizational structures. Provide supervision, mentorship, and performance feedback to support team development and workflow management.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience. Five or more years of experience in campaign finance, PAC compliance, political law, or regulatory reporting. Hands-on experience preparing FEC and state-level reports (candidate, PAC, party, or similar). Strong command of bookkeeping and financial tracking for political entities. Experience working with campaigns, PACs, political compliance firms, or state party operations strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills, client service orientation, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines. Demonstrated leadership, quality control, and team support experience.
Skills & Competencies
Proficiency with tools commonly used in campaign finance (e.g., NGP, FECFile, QuickBooks, Google Suite). High attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality. Ability to build strong client relationships and communicate complex compliance concepts clearly. Strong organizational and project management skills.
