In this paid internship, you'll be empowered to work on challenging and complex issues in a collaborative environment with other talented interns. Over the 10-week program, you'll participate in business projects, mentoring, leadership development training and team-building activities designed to set you up for professional success. The summer Internship program runs June through August, with flexible dates available, based on school schedules. We're looking for individuals who are passionate and entrepreneurial, just like our clients. Specifically, we're looking for top-performers interested in pursuing careers in Commercial Banking. Government Relations (GR) is a small but nimble team of professionals that works collaboratively across local, state and federal governments to deliver the bank's strategic objectives. As a valued member of the GR team, you will assist with the regular government relations and advocacy efforts of the bank, including interaction with elected officials, promotion of our policy agenda, and event support. You will be provided with opportunities for hands-on experience in financial services policy and advocacy work at the local, state, and federal levels. As the Bank grows, GR supports the bank to scale. This includes working on projects and initiatives to ensure that the GR team functions are effective, efficient, and scalable to support the needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Research & track legislation, state and federal regulations, and opportunities to advance business objectives.
  • Support the development of external relationships with government entities and key stakeholders.
  • Review and summarize media reports and information on legislative and political developments.
  • Collaborate with the GR team on the growth and administration of the bank's political action committee (WABPAC).
  • Create and edit materials and presentations for meetings and events.
  • Assist with the logistical elements of events, including setup and registration.
  • Attend meetings, hearings, and coalition / trade association events to observe and record information.
  • Maintain and update databases of elected officials, legislation and community contacts.
  • Assist GR team with grassroots advocacy efforts, mobilizing volunteers, and employee activation on legislative developments.
  • Respond to information requests from community members, elected officials & their staff, and colleagues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Details

The position requires candidate to be onsite five days a week at CityScape in downtown Phoenix. The position will be supervised by the Senior Manager of State and Local Government Relations. The dress code is business casual, but the candidate may be asked to dress in business attire to attend outside functions with government officials in Phoenix.

What you'll need

  • Undergraduate students currently enrolled in a related field of study.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work productively without supervision.
  • An interest in working in the Commercial Business Banking industry.
  • To be eligible for this program, you must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis. We do not offer any type of employment-based immigration sponsorship for this program.
