Overview

This full-time night shift med/surg observation RN position is responsible for providing both direct and indirect nursing care to patients within the unit ensuring highquality patientcentered services. The role requires a solid understanding of departmental and hospital policies that guide the delivery of safe and effective nursing care. Strong interpretive skills and sound clinical judgment are essential as the nurse will engage in frequent interactive consultative and collaborative communication with patients families and interdisciplinary team members. This position plays a key role in supporting a coordinated professional and caring environment that promotes optimal patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Practice

  • Facilitate implement and evaluate the Patient Plan of Care and corresponding outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to promote positive patient outcomes and serve as a strong patient advocate.
  • Implement nursing interventions in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrate competent clinical and technical skills required for delivering safe highquality patient care.
  • Apply critical thinking and sound clinical judgment in all aspects of patient assessment and treatment.
  • Assess analyze and communicate patient information promptly and accurately.
  • Follow all medication safety policies and standards of practice.

Safety & Risk Management

  • Assess patient safety risk factors and identify patients requiring specific interventions related to skin integrity fall risk and proper use of restraints.
  • Promptly initiate interventions to address identified safety needs.
  • Complete required Safety Tracking Tools and documentation in accordance with policy.

Documentation

  • Accurately and promptly document all assessments interventions patient responses and provider communication in the medical record.
  • Ensure documentation reflects clinical decision-making and meets departmental and regulatory standards.

Delegation Supervision & Team Support

  • Supervise assigned staff and delegate tasks appropriately while maintaining responsibility for all care delivered to assigned patients.
  • Report performance issues or concerns involving team members to ensure all patients receive appropriate care and attention.
  • Actively assist coworkers and contribute to a supportive collaborative team environment.

Patient & Family Education

  • Assess educational needs of patients and families and provide clear appropriate written and verbal instructions.
  • Document all education provided and evaluate the patients understanding.

Provider Orders & Clinical Prioritization

  • Perform continuous review initiation and implementation of provider orders every shift.
  • Prioritize responsibilities based on urgency patient needs and available resources.
  • Demonstrate strong problemsolving abilities independent decisionmaking and effective timemanagement skills.
  • Multitask efficiently while maintaining accuracy and quality of care.

Professional Accountability & Development

  • Seek opportunities to expand clinical knowledge and skill through independent learning and participation in clinical experiences.
  • Complete assigned education modules and annual competencies within required timeframes.
  • Actively participate in unitbased councils quality improvement initiatives and performance enhancement efforts.
  • Recognize unit needs and contribute to developing and implementing solutions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a registered nurse

Credentials

  • RN - Registered Nurse
  • BLS - Basic Life Saving certification
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification - or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • NIH - Stroke Certification

Education

  • RN Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
