Litigation Associate (Fort Lauderdale)

A respected Fort Lauderdale litigation firm is adding an associate attorney to its insurance defense practice. The firm defends insurance carriers and their insureds in a steady range of civil matters. You will take on real responsibility early, work closely with experienced partners and have a clear path to grow.

What you’ll do

• Manage a caseload of insurance defense matters from the initial pleadings through resolution
• Draft and respond to pleadings, written discovery and motions, including motions for summary judgment
• Take and defend depositions and prepare witnesses
• Attend hearings, mediations and, as you gain experience, handle trials
• Analyze coverage and liability issues, evaluate claims and provide clear reports and recommendations to carrier clients
• Work with partners, paralegals and adjusters to move cases forward efficiently

What we’re looking for

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and an active Florida Bar license in good standing
• Two to six years of civil litigation experience, with insurance defense experience strongly preferred
• Experience taking depositions and handling hearings
• Strong research and writing skills and sound judgment
• Ability to manage a full caseload and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
• A professional, collaborative attitude
