Role Overview
Ironclad Defense Works (IDW) is seeking top-tier Data Scientists, AI Engineers, and Software Developers to join NATO’s Data Science & AI Branch at ACT in Norfolk, VA. These positions offer a chance to design, build, and deploy advanced AI, machine learning, and software solutions that directly enhance NATO’s warfare development, experimentation, and decision-support capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
Data Scientist / AI Engineer – Enablement & Outreach
- Provide outreach, enablement, and training for NATO staff on data science & AI tools.
- Develop awareness materials, workshops, and demonstrations to promote AI adoption.
- Support collaboration across NATO stakeholders and partner nations.
Data Scientist / AI Engineer
Design, build, and train machine learning models for NATO datasets.Conduct research and develop prototypes for decision support and operational insights.Integrate AI / ML into NATO experimentation, exercises, and wargaming.Full-Stack Developer
Develop scalable applications supporting NATO’s AI / DS workflows.Build APIs, front-end dashboards, and secure data pipelines.Collaborate with data scientists to operationalize AI / ML solutions.Senior Software Developer
Provide advanced coding and systems engineering expertise.Lead software design and architecture for NATO AI / DS platforms.Ensure code quality, performance, and integration with NATO networks and systems.Required Qualifications
University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI / ML, Engineering, or related field.Hands-on experience in AI / ML, data science, software engineering, or full-stack development depending on category.Demonstrated experience working in multinational, defense, or research organizations.Proficiency with modern programming languages (Python, R, Java, C++), data visualization tools, and cloud / virtualization environments.Strong oral and written communication skills in English.Citizenship of a NATO member nation.Active NATO or National SECRET (or higher) clearanceDesired Skills
Familiarity with Agile / DevSecOps methodologies.Experience with big data analytics, edge AI, or federated learning.Track record of deploying AI / ML in real-world mission or enterprise environments.Knowledge of NATO structures, experimentation processes, and operational decision-making.Application Instructions
