Litigation and Medical Malpractice Paralegal

A highly respected litigation law firm in Grand Rapids is seeking an experienced Litigation and Medical Malpractice Paralegal to join its dynamic team. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside skilled trial attorneys on complex cases involving medical malpractice defense, professional liability, and general civil litigation.

About the Role

The Litigation and Medical Malpractice Paralegal will play a critical role in supporting attorneys through all stages of litigation - from initial case intake through trial and post-trial work. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to handle a large volume of documents and data efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct detailed research on case law, statutes, regulations, and medical issues relevant to assigned cases.

Investigate and organize facts, including gathering and reviewing medical records, discovery materials, and expert reports.

Summarize extensive medical records and depositions for attorney review.

Draft, review, and prepare pleadings, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, exhibits, witness lists, and trial notebooks.

Maintain organized case files, document databases, and timelines to ensure all deadlines are met.

Assist attorneys with deposition and trial preparation, including coordinating witnesses, preparing trial exhibits, and managing logistics during trial.

Communicate with clients, experts, healthcare providers, and opposing counsel in a professional and timely manner.

Manage electronic discovery (e-discovery) processes and ensure compliance with discovery obligations.

Support case budgeting, billing, and document production as required.

Qualifications

Education : Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, or a related field. A paralegal certificate (ABA-approved program preferred) or equivalent experience required.

Experience : Minimum of 3 years of experience as a litigation paralegal, with specific experience in medical malpractice or insurance defense strongly preferred.

Technical Skills : Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and legal case management / document management software. Experience with trial presentation tools and e-discovery platforms (e.g., Relativity, CaseMap, TrialDirector) is a plus.

Knowledge : Working understanding of medical terminology, medical record review and summarization, and the litigation process in both state and federal courts.

Pay Details : $70,000.00 to $85,000.00 per year
