This Certified Surgical First Assistant - CVOR position provides specialized cardiovascular and open heart surgical support in a state-of-the-art facility offering comprehensive services including an advanced stroke center (Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award), the state's only fresh post-op Pediatric CICU, and nearly 60 years of community service excellence. The role requires expertise in open heart procedures, vein harvesting, and cardiothoracic surgery with rotating weekends and on-call coverage. Responsibilities

• Provide surgical first assist support during cardiovascular and open heart procedures, including aid in exposure, hemostasis, and technical functions to help surgeons achieve optimal patient outcomes.
• Perform saphenous vein harvesting using current techniques and best practices for coronary artery bypass procedures.
• Assist with cardiothoracic surgeries including CABG, valve replacements, and other cardiovascular interventions requiring advanced surgical assistance.
• Maintain sterile technique and ensure proper handling of instruments, equipment, and surgical supplies throughout procedures.
• Collaborate with cardiovascular surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and OR teams to deliver seamless perioperative care.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and provide proactive assistance during complex cardiovascular cases.
• Participate in on-call rotation (1 day per week plus 1 weekend per month) to support emergent cardiac cases.
• Maintain current knowledge of cardiovascular surgical techniques, equipment, and evidence-based practices.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and safety protocols in the CVOR environment.
• Document surgical procedures accurately and assist with quality improvement initiatives.
