Position Summary :

The Accounting Associate supports the financial operations of Rocky Mountain Communities, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing solutions. This role is responsible for performing a variety of accounting tasks, including accounts payable / receivable, general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mission-driven, and committed to supporting the financial integrity of our organization.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prepare and post journal entries; maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audits and compliance.
  • Support the preparation of grant reports and funding proposals by providing financial data.
  • Assist with budget tracking and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure accurate allocation of expenses.
  • Maintain vendor files and ensure compliance with internal controls and procurement policies.
  • Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.

Qualifications :

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or affordable housing setting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles (FASB, fund accounting) preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Commitment to the mission of affordable housing and community development.
  • Working Conditions :

  • This position operates in a professional office environment with occasional visits to housing sites.
  • Standard work hours with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
