About Lucid Bots

Lucid Bots Inc. is an AI robotics company that extends human reach by building the world's most productive and responsible robots. Our robots allow people to perform dangerous and demanding tasks without putting human life and safety at risk.

Headquartered in Charlotte, we design, engineer, manufacture, and support our products domestically. Our current line of production-ready robots includes the Sherpa, a cleaning drone, and the Lavo Bot, a pressure-washing ground-based robot. Our products elevate safety and efficiency for customers all around the world. Lucid Bots was recently recognized as the fourth fastest-growing manufacturing company in the United States.

We are venture-backed, with multi-round investments from Y Combinator (S19 batch), Cubit Capital, Idea Fund Partners, Danu Ventures, and others. Learn more about our vision.

Our Core Values and How We Work Together

Meeting the demands of our fast-growing venture-backed startup requires commitment from every team member-a commitment to each other, to the customers, and to the broader community. Our core values guide us in how we fulfill that commitment every day :

  • Lead with Compassion : Foster an inclusive and supportive environment where people feel valued and heard.
  • Grow with Purpose : Embrace learning, adaptation, and intentional decision-making.
  • Win as One Team : Collaborate and share ownership of our vision and outcomes.
  • Be Positive Agents of Change : Take ownership and drive impactful actions.
  • Pursue Extraordinary Impact : Solve meaningful problems with innovation and effort.

Goal of This Role

As a Testing Technician on our R&D team, you'll play a crucial role in advancing the development of our robotic systems-including the Sherpa Cleaning Drone, LavoBot Surface Cleaning Robot, and other cutting-edge prototypes. Your primary mission is to execute hands-on tests that provide engineers with the data they need to move faster and build smarter. This is an ideal role for current STEM students who enjoy lab work, tinkering, and robotics-and want the flexibility to balance academics with practical experience.

How You Will Flourish in This Role

You will thrive by staying detail-oriented, curious, and safety-conscious while working in a dynamic shop and lab environment. With guidance from engineers across disciplines, you'll gain real-world experience running tests, capturing data, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts. Your work will have a direct impact on the performance and reliability of our products.

What You'll Do :

  • Execute test plans by setting up fixtures, operating equipment, following step-by-step procedures, and recording results on standardized forms.
  • Log sensor data, notes, and photos; flag anomalies; and enter findings into our test-tracking platforms (Notion / JIRA).
  • Calibrate meters, replace consumables, maintain an organized lab space, and adhere to EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) guidelines.
  • Support root-cause troubleshooting alongside engineers-this may involve basic wiring, mechanical teardown, or firmware flashing.
  • Suggest improvements to test rigs, 3D-print brackets, write how-to documentation, and contribute to smoother future test runs.
  • What You'll Bring :

  • Actively enrolled in a 2- or 4-year program in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Physics, or a related field.
  • Ability to read basic schematics and use common lab tools (e.g., multimeter, calipers, torque wrench).
  • Comfortable working on your feet, lifting up to 40 lbs, and navigating a lab / shop environment with PPE.
  • A detail-driven mindset, eagerness to learn, and commitment to working safely and reliably.
  • Bonus Skills (Preferred, Not Required) :

  • Coursework or project experience with drones, ROS, ArduPilot / PX4, or embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools like Excel, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Experience with CAD or 3D printing.
  • Involvement in co-op programs, student projects, or maker spaces.
  • Work Details :

  • Schedule : 10-25 hours / week during the semester; up to 40 hours / week during school breaks (flexible around class schedules).
  • Location : On-site at our Charlotte, NC engineering lab.
  • Compensation : Competitive hourly wage (commensurate with experience and year in school); no overtime, capped at 40 hours / week.
  • Start Date : Immediate.
  • What You'll Gain :

  • Real-world experience testing production-grade robotics.
  • Mentorship from mechanical, electrical, software, and test engineers.
  • A direct role in shaping the next generation of robotic platforms-your data feeds directly into design decisions.
  • Please submit the following with your application

  • Resume (PDF)
  • Class schedule (current semester)
  • A brief note (≤150 words) on a project or lab you loved and why.
