Equipment & Production Facilities Technician- Open to CSULB Employees Only

Job Summary

This position will oversee the CINE Department's Equipment Room and coordinate the use of production, post-production, and storage facilities. The role involves collaborating with faculty, staff, and students to provide support and services for the check-in, check-out, and use of film production and post-production equipment and software.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and provide service and support for the check-in, check-out, reservation, and use of film production and post-production equipment and CINE production facilities: Generate computerized equipment and facility reservations for faculty and students; maintain equipment records and compose professional emails and letters using inventory software, Microsoft Office, and Excel.
• Oversee, train, and supervise student employees: Writing job descriptions for, hire, train, and schedule Student Assistants/Federal Work Study employees to operate the Equipment Room, production, post-production, and storage facilities. Review and sign monthly time sheets.
• Conduct periodic inventory, inspection, maintenance, and repair of film production equipment: Conduct weekly inventory and inspection of high-end film and audio production equipment; determine need for maintenance, repair, replacement, or survey, if any.
• Maintain scheduled hours of operation and monitor building security: Monitor student equipment usage and safety in Equipment Room, production, post-production, and storage facilities.
• Provide instructor and student support for the use of production and post-production equipment and software: Provide technical support for students and faculty in the use of production and post-production equipment.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of the methods, materials, and other tools used in the set-up, inspection, maintenance, and repair of film and digital production equipment. Ability to analyze problems with film and digital production equipment and determine necessary repairs. Ability to adhere to and apply policies and procedures regarding the safe and proper use of film and digital production equipment. Ability to keep simple work and inventory records and compose professional emails and letters using Microsoft Office and inventory software. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.

Education and Experience

• Equivalent to one year of journey-level experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of scientific or technical Electro-Mechanical equipment requiring construction and fabrication skills, some precision work, and trade or craft skills working with a variety of unique materials, or specialized knowledge and skill related to unusual equipment required.
• Bachelor's degree in film production or film-related discipline.
• Two years of educational training (e.g., community college) with specialization in film production.
• Two years of experience working with film (16mm and 35mm) and digital cameras on professional productions, at film equipment rental houses, or in film production-related academic instructional support.
• Familiarity with the use and maintenance of lighting, grip, and location sound equipment.
• Experience supervising, coordinating, and scheduling the work of others.

Compensation

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $4,033 - $5,200 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

CSU Classification Salary Range: The CSU Classification Salary Range for this position is $4,033 - $7,299 per month.
