Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical ICU position in a Level 1 Trauma setting requiring night shifts and NE or compact licensure.
Responsibilities
Work in the adult Medical Surgical ICU within an acute care hospitalUnit has 34 beds and handles adult and pediatric patients ages 15 and abovePatient population includes neuro surgery, respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure (CRRT), general surgery, psych / OD, GI bleeds, and complex surgical casesNurse-to-patient ratios are 1 : 1-2 in ICU and 1 : 4-5 in PCURequired to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmicsUtilizes Draeger heart monitors and a centralized telemetry system; RNs must independently interpret cardiac stripsWorks 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630)Required to work every other weekend and as needed for holidaysWill float to all inpatient units except Maternity / NICUEpic EMR system is used, and experience is preferredRNs function as essential care team members and collaborate with attendings and student providers to deliver high quality careUnit is fast-paced as the primary tertiary referral hospital for the systemCharge nurse present on every shift and responds to rapid response and code eventsNursing aides are available with a ratio of 1 : 18Artificial nails are prohibited per infection prevention policyTwo shifts of unit-specific orientation providedNavy blue scrubs are requiredNo tele / monitor techs; RNs are responsible for cardiac monitoringCandidates must reside 50 miles or more from the facility to qualifyUp to 7 days of requested time off accepted per 13-week contract; additional RTO cannot be approvedReturning employees must not have worked for any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past yearRequirements
Active NE or compact RN license required at time of considerationCurrent ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are requiredMinimum 2 years of ICU nursing experienceAbility to read and interpret telemetry strips independentlyMust pass a skills-based open-book exam with a score of 90% or higher during orientationDriver's license required for verification of 50-mile radius eligibilityMust provide two professional references : one supervisor reference from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor reference from the past 3 yearsMay not have worked full time, part time, or PRN for any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past yearBenefits
