Compensation : $31-$40 / hr

    • JOB SUMMARY : Eocene Environmental Group is currently seeking a qualified candidate looking to expand their leadership experience and further develop a career in paleontological resource management. The Paleontological Field Supervisor will be responsible for managing a team of paleontologists in planning and conducting field surveys, and reporting tasks related to paleontological resources in support of utility-scale energy development projects.

  • Paleontological field surveys
  • Documentation of paleontological localities
  • Fossil excavation and salvages
  • Fossil preparation and fossil curation
  • Quality control and assurance

  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures.

    • JOB REQUIREMENTS :

  • B.S. or B.A degree with an emphasis in paleontology or geology
  • Minimum of 6 years monitoring and survey experience in states such as Utah, Nevada, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Arizona
  • Ability to be permitted as a Field Agent / Field Supervisor on paleontological permits
  • Prior experience with paleontological mitigation projects including construction monitoring and paleontological surveys
  • Demonstrate proficiency in recognizing various types of fossils, determination of fossil significance, familiarity with collection methods, and advanced knowledge of paleontological field techniques
  • Knowledge of basic geology skills such as :
  • Geologic descriptions
  • Measuring stratigraphic columns
  • Recognizing vertebrate, invertebrate, plant, and trace fossils
  • Knowledge around the use and appropriate application of excavation tools and practices
  • Experience in personnel management
  • Ability to work long hours in potentially extreme weather conditions
  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time or relocate
  • Competence using global positioning system units, maps, tablets, and submeter accuracy devices
  • The ability to operate a four-wheel drive vehicle over rough terrain
  • The ability to perform work duties independently or as part of a team
  • Capable of walking / hiking long distances
  • Clear communicator, highly organized, motivated, thorough, accurate, and dependable
  • Ability to read, write and speak English sufficient to perform job duties and to interact and communicate with employees and vendors.

    • PREFERRED EXPERINECE :

  • Master's Degree in paleontology, geology, or related field
  • Previous experience operating as a Field Agent / Field Supervisor on paleontological permits
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in a supervisory role
  • Fossil preparation and / or museum curation experience
  • Familiarity with typical utility construction activities
  • Familiarity with ESRI GIS applications (including desktop, ArcGIS, Field Maps, Survey123, etc.)
  • Prior experience working in Arizona and New Mexico
