About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse - ICU

Certifications : ACLS, BLS, NIHSS

Must-Have :

• Experience with patient care in an acute setting
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification
• Basic Life Support certification
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certification

Description : Unit has 20 beds.

Staff to patient ratios are 1 to 1 or 1 to 2.

The electronic medical record system in use is Cerner.

A Nurse Shift Manager or Charge Nurse is present each shift.

Resource nurses are available.

Weekend requirement is 4 weekend shifts every 4 weeks.

Holiday requirements include one major and two minor holidays during Christmas time, with eves considered minor.

Scrub color is navy blue.

Telemedicine equipment is Phillips.

Ventilators are used, and respiratory therapists manage them while nurses troubleshoot issues.

Hospitalists or intensivists are not available 24 / 7 currently but will start being on call 24 / 7.

An intravenous team is available for PICC and midline insertions.

Respiratory therapy is present in the unit 24 / 7.

Pharmacy services are available 24 / 7.

In cases of staff reduction, staff may be placed on call.

Shifts begin at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Floating may occur to other departments such as ER, Tele, or Med Surge.

Staff may float to a sister facility, but mid-shift floating is rare.

Floor-specific orientation requires a minimum of two shifts plus one for Cerner training.

Common diagnoses and patient types include neuro issues, radical cancer surgeries, Da Vinci procedures, abdominal cases, urology cases, CVA, TPA, respiratory failure, sepsis, and oncology patients.

No pediatric patients are admitted.

Additional equipment includes rotaprone devices and glycemic control supplies.

Nurses may work across multiple campuses, although floating mid-shift is uncommon.

Cancellation policy allows for the hospital to cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment.
