Position Summary : Johnson County Community College is searching to fill a full-time faculty position in English (with emphases listed below). JCCC is in Overland Park, KS, the second largest city in the state of Kansas and part of the greater Kansas City Metro. JCCC is dedicated to maintaining a rich cultural community, with an award-winning contemporary art museum and center for the performing arts located on campus. JCCC is looking for a diverse pool of applicants for this full-time faculty position. Full-time faculty in English work to strike a balance between teaching and research and have strong professional connections with regional and national composition, rhetoric, and literature professional organizations. Many of our 18,000 students are nontraditional, military veterans, immigrants, international, and first-generation college students. The successful candidate for this job will teach the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester in composition, with the potential to teach literature courses. The successful candidate will perform other duties expected of full-time faculty, including maintaining scheduled office hours; developing and revising curriculum; developing and implementing course and program assessment of student learning outcomes; participating in department, division, and college meetings; serving on committees; and other duties as assigned. Teaching assignments could be a combination of online, hybrid, and face-to-face classes and are subject to change as assigned.

Teaching - Faculty members are expected to be effective teachers and excel in course instruction. Listed below are the minimum expectations of faculty who teach at JCCC.
Possess thorough and accurate knowledge of his or her specific field / discipline including the ability to evaluate and apply content.
Select and develop instructional materials; plan and organize instruction to enhance student learning; create appropriate assignments to encourage student learning, the development of communication skills, and higher order thinking; and use available instructional technology, as appropriate.
Demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills that result in clear communication of subject matter to the students.
Meet classes as scheduled; notify the appropriate Chair, Assistant Dean, or Dean in advance if they are to be absent, and, if possible, arrange for a substitute instructor or assignments for his or her class.
Member of the College Community - In addition to teaching, faculty members are expected to be an active member of the college community. Listed below are the expectations of faculty as responsible and professional representatives of JCCC. Members of the college community should perform their professional responsibilities in accordance with the goals, missions, and plans of the department, program, division and College. Therefore, faculty members are expected to do the following :
Attend and participate in all required meetings and exercise stewardship in the use of college facilities and materials.

Fulfill all requirements as stated in the Master Agreement.
