Position Summary

Guilford College is seeking a Student Accounts professional for an entry level position to join our team. As a position that works with students directly, the ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, to include problem solving and communication skills.

BASIC FUNCTIONS : The Student Accounts Specialist is responsible for supporting the day to day operations of the Office of Student Financial Services, providing excellent customer service to students. The position requires excellent communication and organizational skills; knowledge of and proficient with common PC software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and other computer software and related computer and Internet technologies; ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply accounting best practices and institutional policies related to student accounts; ability to regularly ensure confidentiality; and ability to accurately, efficiently and effectively perform pertinent duties in such a fashion that the office functions in a consistently smooth manner.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Communicate with students and their families on student account balances and opportunities for payment.
  • Creates and maintains all internal and external collection processes, including creation of policies and procedures for collection activities, especially for Federal Perkins Loans, internal loans and accounts receivable collections. Works closely with the Finance Department and external collection agencies to maintain compliance and communication to students.
  • Abiliity to act as a cashier, receiving funds and reconciling payments made to student accounts. Responsible for reconciliation of accounts to bank statements and financial funds.
  • Work closely with the Finance Department on internal technology needs such as creating new fund codes and ensuring Banner to Workday functionality.
  • Complete the disbursement of financial aid to student accounts
  • Complete refunds for credit balances after review of eligible accounts
  • Work with 1098-T requirements to ensure correct reporting of data to students and IRS
  • Assists with all check-in and College events as needed
  • Exhibits effective customer service skills and team-building capabilities continuously
  • Improves service to students through refining and enhancing office operational procedures and processes
  • Develops effective working relationships with appropriate personnel in various campus Departments
  • Performs core daily tasks as assigned by supervisor or Director
  • Completes assigned goals, tasks, and projects in an accurate and timely manner
  • Maintains punctual attendance in accordance with the defined office schedule and completes any other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Higher Education experience preferred
  • Proven record of customer service
  • Experience with SIS, Banner preferred, and Microsoft Office products
  • Accurate and detail oriented
  • Able to work independently but also part of a team
  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Able to interpret federal and state regulations
