Function
Reporting to the Medical Director of Primary Care (MDPC), the Director of Clinical Education provides leadership and oversight for medical education and clinical training programs across Fenway Health. This includes supervising internal medicine (IM) and family medicine (FM) residents and fellows who rotate through Fenway Health, coordinating precepting schedules, and facilitating interdisciplinary learning experiences.
This position plays a central role in building a vibrant learning culture that reflects Fenway's values of equity, excellence, and patient-centered care. The Director of Clinical Education works closely with The Fenway Institute (TFI)'s Education Center to ensure the sharing and coordination of educational materials and serves as a connector between medical staff and education leads in other clinical departments, including Behavioral Health, Psychiatry, Dental, and Optometry.
Representative Duties
Administrative Leadership (11 hours / week)
- Provides strategic leadership and direct supervision for Internal Medicine and Family Medicine residents and fellows rotating through Fenway Health
- Oversees and advances the design, coordination, and evaluation of clinical training and educational programs for internal medicine and family medicine residents
- Develops and manages precepting structures, including assignment of preceptors, scheduling, and continuous quality improvement of precepting sessions
- Participates in the recruitment, selection and onboarding process for new medical providers
- Partners with education leads across departments (e.g., BH, Psych, Dental, Optometry) to develop interdisciplinary learning opportunities
- Serves as primary liaison to academic institutions and external medical training programs, ensuring alignment with Fenway Health's educational mission and standards
- Chairs the Medical Education Steering Committee to define vision, structure, and evaluation of medical education initiatives across all clinical departments
- Collaborates with The Fenway Institute Education Center to align and share educational resources and curriculum, and promote organizational learning
- Champions inclusive, trauma-informed, and equity-centered learning environments that reflect Fenway's values and commitment to health equity
- Leads the professional development of teaching faculty and clinician educators through coaching, mentorship, and structured learning opportunities
- Identifies, evaluates, and integrates innovative training methods, including case-based learning, simulation, and real-time feedback models
- Directs the development of continuing education offerings that address the evolving needs of both clinicians and trainees
- Serves as an active member of the medical department's leadership team, contributing to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives as requested by the MDPC or CMO
- Partners with MDPC, DCEI, and Floor Leads to ensure alignment between education goals and operational workflows

MD or DO degree with active Massachusetts licensureBoard certification in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Med / PedsExperience supervising medical residents, fellows, or studentsDemonstrated commitment to equity and inclusive clinical educationStrong communication, organization, and leadership skillsClinical experience in LGBTQIA+ affirming care and community health strongly preferredWorking Conditions and Physical Requirements
