POSITION DESCRIPTION :
The Animal Registrar manages records related to the Zoo & Aquarium's animal collection. This position ensures the maintenance and quality of all animal records, serves as a liaison and information source to animal staff, and is responsible for the overall documentation of animal transactions and associated permits.

Responsible for the maintenance and updating of various manual and computerized animal record keeping systems, including :
- Inventorying, documenting, and identifying all animals in the Zoo & Aquarium's collection.
- Recording births, deaths, reproductive histories, shipments, and other notes related to animals' health and behavior.
- Coordinating with animal staff to obtain / verify records information, completion of transactions and other information needed.
- Regularly reviewing recordkeeping procedures and implementing improvements to current standards of record management.
Assists with a variety of tasks related to animal transports, including :
Preparing and tracking documentation regarding the acquisition, disposition, donation and / or loan of animals.Assisting with logistical planning of animal shipments.Procuring, maintaining, and renewing necessary federal, state and local permits required for the maintenance and transport of wildlife.Establishing working relationships with records management staff at other zoological institutions, as well as federal, state, and local regulatory personnel.Prepares various reports related to animal records and inventory, as well as provides institution data for studbook reports, questionnaires, surveys, and Species Survival Plan (SSP) updates.
Serves as a liaison to the International Species Information System (ISIS), including submitting data to the system, as well as analyzing and disseminating data received.
Assists the Senior Animal Curator as the pest control liaison within the Zoo & Aquarium, which includes working closely with USDA for various needs through Zoo property.

EDUCATION & FORMAL TRAINING :Bachelor's Degree in biological science or related strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE :Minimum 2 years' experience in a zoological setting required.
Experience with ZIMS or other animal management software / databases strongly preferred.Knowledge of inventory accession and general record management principles and practices, including zoo registration methods and collection management standards.Knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes, guidelines and requirements related to maintaining a zoological collection, as well as those regulating animal acquisition, disposition, exhibition, husbandry standards and transportation.Knowledge of general zoological and veterinary medical terminology.Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, required.Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS :Must have valid driver's license.
Must have or be able to obtain negative TB test.Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays and occasional evening hours, in all weather extremes.Must pass a background and drug screening.
