Location : University of Oklahoma Medical Center

Shift Available : (24 Hours / Weekly) 7p-7a

Medicine Stepdown / Intermediate 7W unit consists of 27 beds, 11 Step Down and 16 Med Surg beds. Medicine Stepdown / Intermediate unit is looking for motivated, compassionate, and disciplined nurses craving a stimulating, learning experience, and a strong team environment! This unit cares for a variety of both lower acuity and complex critically ill patients with multifaceted disease processes requiring higher level of care and closer monitoring. The Medicine Stepdown / Intermediate unit offers a challenging environment where you can develop and enhance your complex nursing skills while making a significant impact on your community!

General Description :

Under general supervision, provides preventative and health care to an assigned group of patients or clients in the OU Health facility.

Essential Responsibilities :

• Will assist with the nursing assessment through data collection, observation, and obtainment of vital signs on assigned patients or clients.
• Provide care according to an established nursing plan.
• Observe changes in patient's condition and notify supervisory personnel if significant changes occur.
• Provide routine ostomy care, nasogastric tube placement and feeding and placement and discontinuing of oral-gastric tube. Will initiate and monitor oxygen therapy according to physician orders or unit protocol.
• Will suction and clean tracheotomy sites.
• May administer oral, intravenous, intra-muscular, intra-dermal, subcutaneous, sub-lingual, vaginal, rectal and topical medications.
• Prepare patients for routine physical examinations and assist the physician during examinations.
• An LPN can function in the role of Surgical Tech if position open is in the operating room.

General Responsibilities :

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications :

Education : Completion of educational requirements for NCLEX-PN examination.

Experience : None required. One or more years of experience preferred.

Licensure / Certifications / Registrations Required : Current LPN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact LPN License (eNLC). Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
