Join our team and help support Hampton's residents and local businesses in the State Income Tax department!

The Deputy Commissioner of the Revenue plays a key role in assisting taxpayers, processing tax assessments, and ensuring accurate and efficient revenue operations. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys customer service, detailed administrative work, and learning the ins and outs of local taxation.

Typical task :

• Assist citizens with personal property, business, and income tax questions.
• Coordinate personal property assessments using DMV records and NADA appraisal guides.
• Prepare, receive, and process Virginia income tax returns and support electronic filing of federal returns.
• Research and resolve taxpayer concerns via phone, email, and in person.
• Support DMV Select operations, including auditing and shipping daily paperwork.
• Analyze and audit Business Personal Property returns, depreciation schedules, and asset lists. Initiate collection actions for delinquent accounts and issue statutory assessments.
• Draft and distribute excise tax notifications and business license renewal materials.
• Locate updated addresses for returned mail or delinquent accounts.
• Interview taxpayers and handle complex inquiries requiring interpretation of tax laws and codes.
