OVERVIEW
THE JOB :
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Systems Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for overseeing all aspects of our data center systems. In this role, you will be responsible for managing data center systems, including VMWare, storage, backups and other related platforms.
Your primary focus will be ensuring the uptime and efficient operation of these systems through monitoring, lifecycle management and incident response. Additionally, you will play a key role in mentoring staff on supported systems, developing system standards and procedures and driving capacity planning initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
WHAT A SYSTEMS ENGINEERING MANAGER DOES AT CRAVATH :
- Leads and manages a team responsible for the operation and maintenance of data center systems, including servers, storage, backup systems, load balancers, identity and access management and certificates;
- Mentors and trains staff on supported systems, including storage, servers and virtualization, to enhance their skills and ensure a high level of expertise within the team;
- Ensures the uptime and efficient operation of data center systems by implementing proactive systems monitoring, lifecycle management practices and effective incident response procedures;
- Develops PowerShell scripts to automate processes, create queries and troubleshoot issues, enhancing system efficiency and streamlining operations;
- Establishes system standards, operating procedures and business continuity (BC / DR) plans to ensure consistent and secure operations;
- Develops utilization metrics for capacity planning purposes and provides recommendations to optimize system performance and resource allocation;
- Manages projects from conception to closure, collaborating closely with technical stakeholders to securely plan, deploy and troubleshoot data center systems;
- Creates concise and comprehensive documentation, including logical and physical system diagrams, procedural guidelines, planning documents and informational resources to facilitate effective system support;
- Performs after-action reviews (AAR) for incidents involving supported systems and presents findings to identify areas for improvement and implement preventive measures; and
- Carries out additional duties as assigned, leveraging expertise to contribute to the overall success of the team and organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
LET'S TALK IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING :
Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably in computer science, systems, information technology, management information systems, or a related field;Microsoft AZ-104 : Microsoft Azure Administrator certification is preferred;NetApp Certified Data Administrator, ONTAP certification is preferred;VMware Professional Certification (VCP) is preferred;Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience managing a team supporting core IT infrastructure systems (storage, servers, networking) in a primarily Microsoft OS based environment;Minimum of 10 years of experience in architecting and building high availability, high-performance storage systems;Minimum of 10 years of experience in architecting and building high availability, high-performance VMware server systems;Minimum of 10 years of experience in architecting and building Microsoft Windows servers (2016, 2019, 2022) and services;Minimum of 10 years of experience managing technical projects from concept through closure;Expert working knowledge of IT security best practices;Proven experience managing data center systems, including physical and virtual servers, storage and backup systems, load balancers, identity and access management and certificates;Strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation, troubleshooting and querying purposes;Solid understanding of system standards, operating procedures and business continuity (BC / DR) planning;Excellent project management skills, with the ability to oversee projects from initiation to completion;Strong documentation skills, ensuring clear and comprehensive resources for system support;Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle incidents and provide effective solutions;Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and train staff;Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical stakeholders and cross-functional teams;Excellent customer service, organizational, management, communication and troubleshooting skills;Ability to effectively execute multiple IT projects and meet deadlines with limited supervision;Enthusiasm and adaptability, with the ability to quickly acquire new skills and knowledge;Familiarity with change and production control procedures;Strong focus and excellent attention to detail while working in a fast-paced and energetic environment; andAbility to work additional hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.This position is located in our New York office, and currently has a hybrid work schedule, but that is subject to change. The estimated salary range for this position is $150,000 to $200,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and where applicable, licensure or certification obtained. Market and Firm factors are also considered.
