There are 24 beds with no trauma bays. Private room available for psych / seclusion needs based on behavior; overflow room available for four patients. The unit typically sees about 250 patient visits per day. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 2 : 1 or 4 : 1. The electronic medical record system used is Cerner power chart. A charge nurse is present but does not take patients. ER techs assist with technical duties. Security and patient sitters are provided by ER techs. Every other weekend is required, with rotations including Fri, Sat, Sun; staffing may necessitate working every weekend. Holidays will be integrated into the permanent staff rotation; expect to work holidays. Registered Nurses wear blue scrubs; technicians wear green scrubs. The unit has 22 hardwired monitors available at both the nurses' station and in patient rooms. Respiratory therapy is available 24 / 7. Pharmacy services are also available 24 / 7. Shifts include 12-hour assignments from approximately 6 : 45 AM to 7 : 15 PM for days and 3 : 00 PM to 7 : 00 AM for nights. Flexibility with shift times is essential. There is no floating to other units. One day of floor-specific orientation is provided. Common diagnosis types include STEMI, cardiac patients, sepsis, alcohol-related issues, stroke, DKA, and various other conditions. Care is divided into three parts : fast track, treatment with anticipated disposition, and acute care. There are no inpatient pediatric or behavioral health units. The hospital has the ability to cancel up to four shifts during a 13-week assignment.
