Locum Registered Veterinary Technician - Emergency Team

VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center is a large, multi‑disciplinary specialty and emergency hospital serving Northern California. Our Emergency & Critical Care department is fast‑paced, collaborative, and deeply committed to providing exceptional patient care and client service. As a locum RVT, you will play a crucial role in supporting our emergency veterinarians and the technical team during periods of high caseload or staffing needs.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) to join our Emergency Team on a locum basis. This role is ideal for technicians who thrive in a dynamic environment, enjoy emergency medicine, and want flexibility in scheduling.

You will work alongside emergency veterinarians, critical care specialists, and a highly skilled technician team to support triage, patient stabilization, diagnostics, anesthesia monitoring, and ongoing inpatient care.

What You’ll Do

• Perform emergency triage, patient assessment, and prioritization
• Support stabilization and ongoing patient management in high‑acuity situations
• Administer medications, IV fluids, CRIs, and perform accurate dose calculations
• Assist with diagnostic procedures including radiology, laboratory work, and advanced imaging
• Provide anesthesia monitoring for emergency procedures
• Maintain accurate and detailed medical records
• Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and team members
• Contribute to a positive, safe, and team‑focused work environment

Qualifications

• Active California RVT license required
• Prior emergency or critical care experience strongly preferred
• Ability to remain effective in a fast‑paced, high‑stress environment
• Strong communication skills, teamwork mindset, and reliability
• Ability to work relief shifts, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Comfortable working with multiple departments and specialty teams

Compensation: $27-$36 / hour - Weekend shifts offer a $4/hour differential. Overnight Shifts offer a $7/hour differential.
