Chief of Construction

Under the general direction of the Director of Capital Programs, the Chief of Construction performs the most complex construction tasks relative to this area of responsibility; administers and participates in design activities (as needed) and all construction project activities; ensures construction work quality and adherence to established construction codes; supervises, assigns, and reviews the work of staff responsible for the commission of construction projects; responsible for supervising, assigning, and reviewing the work of subordinate or contracted construction and engineering staff (during construction) and general contractors. The Chief of Construction may also be responsible for overseeing the work of outside consultants or assisting higher level managerial staff in planning and evaluating the quantity and quality of work performed by subordinate staff.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture.
• Minimum fifteen (15) years of increasingly responsible experience in construction management or a closely related field, including full responsibility managing large complex projects.
• Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience with engineering technical professional staff. (Two (2) years of relevant experience, experience may include an advanced degree).
• Supervision and experience in construction oversight of projects greater than $150 million.
• Current California Professional Engineer License in Civil Engineering is required.
