Responsibilities
The Department of Modern Languages and Linguistics at Florida State University invites applications for a nine month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Japanese Literature and Cultural Studies to begin August 2026. The selected candidate will teach two courses per semester at any assigned level in the Japanese program as a tenure-track faculty.
Qualifications
A PhD or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution is required. Candidates should have a record of, or demonstrated potential for, distinguished scholarly research, and be committed both to excellence in teaching and to enhancing the department’s programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and English is also required.
We welcome applicants with a broad range of research interests, and we are especially interested in scholarship that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries and / or engages multiple historical periods or cultures. Additional research areas may include environmental humanities and / or translation studies.
