Job Description

At APTIM, we come to work each day knowing that we are making an impact on the world. Our work spans from safeguarding and maintaining critical infrastructure to helping communities recover from natural disasters, from empowering our armed forces and first responders to reducing carbon and energy use, and from making cities more resilient against the threats of climate change to restoring contaminated ecological systems.

Aptim Environmental and Infrastructure is looking for a junior to mid-level engineering candidate who is familiar with the environmental engineering trade, can apply their intellect and motivation to complete tasks with quality outcomes and efficient designs, and work with a long-standing, world-class team of Engineers, Geoscientists, and other licensed professionals. This position includes sampling of all types of environmental media, work with soil, water, and air treatment systems, supervision of construction activities, quality control, hazardous materials, and occasional emergency response activities. This positional also requires working knowledge of MS Excel as it pertains to data collection and automated datalogging and both utilizing existing worksheets and developing new ones to evaluate and display useful data.

APTIM and its predecessor companies have been in the environmental industry since its infancy. Many of the Dallas staff have been with the company for at least 15 years, while several have been with the company for 25 years or more. APTIM has held many government, commercial, and industrial client contracts continuously for decades, providing world-class solutions to clients such as the US Department of Defense, US EPA, 7-Eleven, the State of Texas, AT&T, Williams Oil, and Gerdau Ameristeel. We offer competitive compensation, a relaxed work environment, and a team that trains and supports each other to meet and exceed client expectations.

Job Summary:

The junior to mid-level engineer in our APTIM Dallas, Texas office will perform a variety of engineering tasks associated with the planning, implementation, and management of environmental remediation and assessment projects. The successful candidate possesses strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently interact with colleagues, subcontractors, and clients alike. This position will work under the direct supervision of a Texas-licensed Professional Engineer where necessary, develop engineering proficiency in design, installation, and operation phases, assisting field staff via remote troubleshooting, management and evaluation of treatment system data, field supervision of larger projects, and project management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work will support environmental remediation and construction at various government and commercial client sites, primarily within the state of Texas but also including other states.
  • Typical engineering tasks include preparation of project plans, drawings, and figures, sizing, selection, specification, and procurement of mechanical and electrical equipment, collection and interpretation of environmental and engineering data, preparation of reports, and supporting field technicians and treatment plant operators with troubleshooting and improving remedial equipment.

  • Typical general environmental tasks will include supervision of environmental and clean construction scopes, inspection of both internal project work and third-party contractors for conformance to specifications, and limited groundwater, soil, and air sampling.
  • Will ensure conformance to applicable engineering codes and standards as well as to company policies and procedures.
  • Our team supports a limited number of on-call environmental field support activities by taking turns with the responsibilities; a few weeks a year, 24-hour phone support and local-only site visits may be required.
  • Receives project briefing from Project Manager and/or Project Engineer, then moves forward to complete tasks with support; manages own time to anticipate project needs and senior objectives and decisions; moves forward with less support required over time.
  • This role will primarily support APTIM's TCEQ Superfund Program, as well as APTIM's Texas Solid Waste Engineering program. Secondary support will be provided to other APTIM services in Texas, such as general commercial, industrial, and local government clients.
  • This position requires 25% in-state travel.

Qualifications:

  • Additionally, the candidate must have the ability to work independently with minimal guidance, and be able to determine own work priorities within an assigned task.
  • Open to taking direction and guidance from senior level engineers and managers.
  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business systems to improve products or services in own discipline.
  • Monitors and controls costs within own work. Solves moderately complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Manages own time to meet agreed schedule, budget, and quality targets.
  • Requires a Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering; BA not accepted for this role. Environmental, Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering degrees preferred.
  • The candidate must be able to pass a hazardous materials handling physical, and on occasion must be able to wear a full-face respirator and conduct typical hazardous materials work activities.
