Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Tele / PCU position with PCU and telemetry experience, including the ability to read cardiac strips.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Position is in an acute care hospital environment on a combined Med / Tele / PCU stepdown unit
  • Unit has 32 beds and cares for adult and geriatric patients, including cardiac, medical, surgical, pulmonary, sepsis, and Covid / respiratory cases
  • Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-5, with occasional 5-6 at night; PCU level overflow is 1 : 3
  • Common cases involve cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, pneumonia, sepsis, heart history, and acute on chronic conditions
  • RNs titrate multiple cardiac drips including amiodarone, cardizem, heparin, nitro, nipride, lasix, and low dose dopamine
  • Unit uses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferred
  • Portable and in-room cardiac monitors are utilized, with a dedicated monitor tech present
  • RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
  • Respiratory therapy equipment includes Bipap, trachs, airvo, and ventilators
  • 12-hour shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a) required, with every other weekend and holiday coverage
  • First to float, including floating to MS, PCU, and occasional ER holds / boarding
  • Any color scrubs may be worn
  • Duties include caring for complex cardiac and medical stepdown patients, monitoring telemetry, and titrating drips
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team including a charge nurse and patient care techs
  • Two 12-hour shifts of orientation provided; on the unit independently by the end of orientation week
  • Candidates with previous travel experience preferred but first time travelers will be considered
  • Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted up front and may not exceed 7 days per 13-week contract; additional RTO is not accepted
  • Holiday coverage is required for every other holiday according to the department schedule
  • \n \n Requirements\n

  • Active ND or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience with recent PCU and telemetry experience
  • Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
  • Active BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Must have experience titrating cardiac drips
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
