American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Tele / PCU position with PCU and telemetry experience, including the ability to read cardiac strips.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Position is in an acute care hospital environment on a combined Med / Tele / PCU stepdown unitUnit has 32 beds and cares for adult and geriatric patients, including cardiac, medical, surgical, pulmonary, sepsis, and Covid / respiratory casesNurse to patient ratios are typically 1 : 4-5, with occasional 5-6 at night; PCU level overflow is 1 : 3Common cases involve cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, pneumonia, sepsis, heart history, and acute on chronic conditionsRNs titrate multiple cardiac drips including amiodarone, cardizem, heparin, nitro, nipride, lasix, and low dose dopamineUnit uses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferredPortable and in-room cardiac monitors are utilized, with a dedicated monitor tech presentRNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry stripsRespiratory therapy equipment includes Bipap, trachs, airvo, and ventilators12-hour shifts (7a-7p or 7p-7a) required, with every other weekend and holiday coverageFirst to float, including floating to MS, PCU, and occasional ER holds / boardingAny color scrubs may be wornDuties include caring for complex cardiac and medical stepdown patients, monitoring telemetry, and titrating dripsWork with a multidisciplinary team including a charge nurse and patient care techsTwo 12-hour shifts of orientation provided; on the unit independently by the end of orientation weekCandidates with previous travel experience preferred but first time travelers will be consideredRequest for time off (RTO) must be submitted up front and may not exceed 7 days per 13-week contract; additional RTO is not acceptedHoliday coverage is required for every other holiday according to the department schedule\n \n Requirements\n
Active ND or compact RN license required at time of considerationMinimum 2 years of RN experience with recent PCU and telemetry experienceMust be able to read and interpret cardiac stripsActive BLS and ACLS certifications requiredMust have experience titrating cardiac dripsEpic charting experience preferredCandidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facilityCannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility\n Benefits\n
