HerringStones Store Manager : Roles and Responsibilities
The Retail Store Manager is responsible for overseeing daily store operations, driving sales performance, and ensuring a high-quality customer experience. Below are your day-to-day tasks, divided into operations and sales floor responsibilities.
Daily Operations Responsibilities
Store Opening / Closing Procedures :
- Open and close the store according to company protocols, ensuring that all safety and security checks are completed.
- Conduct a pre-opening walk-through to ensure the store is ready for business-stock is replenished, displays are neat, and all equipment is functional.
- Complete daily cash register checks, set up POS systems, and ensure all staff are ready for their shifts.
Inventory Management :
Monitor stock levels daily to ensure product availability, especially for fast-moving items.Conduct routine stock checks and cycle counts to maintain accurate inventory records.Receive, and inspect new shipments, ensuring items are entered into the system and stocked promptly.Handle inventory discrepancies by investigating stock variances and adjusting records as needed with inventory team at headquartersHandle any cross-selling of inventory orders like shipping from store to store using the "Shipping SOP".Staff Scheduling and Task Delegation :
Create and adjust daily work schedules, ensuring all shifts are covered and the store is adequately staffed during peak hours / holiday times frames.Delegate daily tasks such as replenishing stock, cleaning, and merchandising to the appropriate team members.Monitor breaks and shifts to ensure compliance with company policies.Track and monitor all store incentives for the sales team and issue new monthly incentives to encourage strong sales and fun in the work atmosphere.Schedule all team meetings monthly and as needed.Schedule and conduct all evaluations with team members every 90 days.Responsible for all hiring and dismissal of staff members.Financial and Sales Reporting :
Review daily sales reports, comparing actual performance to targets and analyzing any variances and communicating goals to the sales floor manager / team.Complete cash handling tasks, including reconciling cash registers, preparing daily bank deposits, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.Track operational expenses such as supplies and utilities to stay within budget. This would include pay in / payouts, making change at the bank, and handling the company credit card.Vendor and Supplier Coordination :
Communicate with vendors for timely deliveries and ensure products are accurately received and invoiced.Handle any vendor-related issues, such as delayed shipments or incorrect orders, and escalate when necessary.Track vendor performance, ensuring contracts and terms are being met.Communicate with HerringStones HQ if necessary for any vendor related issues.Social Media Coordination and Posting :Communicate with sales manager and staff on current events happening in the area and local events to ensure proper product knowledge and social media reach.Post daily for the store's account on required platformsConfirm social media schedule weekly with CMO and team to ensure clarity of what is being promoted.Daily Sales Floor Responsibilities
Customer Service Excellence :Greet and assist customers throughout the day, ensuring staff follows suit to provide an exceptional in-store experience.Handle escalated customer complaints or issues, ensuring quick and satisfactory resolutions.Monitor and respond to customer feedback, adjusting store operations to improve the overall shopping experience.Sales Targets and Performance Management :
Monitor real-time sales data throughout the day, identifying and addressing slow periods by encouraging upselling or cross-selling strategies.Ensure staff is trained and motivated to meet individual and team sales targets through ongoing coaching and real-time feedback.Ensure team members are accurately reporting and tracking their sales via the "stylists tracker" SOP.Hold brief daily meetings or check-ins with the sales team to review performance, adjust targets, and celebrate wins.Setting goals visually in POS and communicating goals daily with the team.Visual Merchandising and Store Presentation :
Maintain high standards of visual merchandising by conducting a daily review of product displays, shelf layouts, and signage.Ensure products are displayed according to company guidelines and seasonal promotions are correctly set up.Regularly restock shelves, remove outdated items, and refresh displays to keep the store looking appealing and organized.Loss Prevention :
Monitor staff and customer activity throughout the day to prevent theft or suspicious behavior.Ensure all high-value items are securely displayed and tagged with anti-theft devices.Conduct random bag checks for employees at the end of shifts (if part of store policy), and check security footage as needed.Team Development and Training :
Provide ongoing training for staff on product knowledge, sales techniques, and customer service best practices.Conduct brief, daily "huddles" to communicate goals, promotions, or changes to operations and to reinforce company culture.Offer performance feedback daily, recognizing top performers and coaching underperforming staff to improve.Adding in interview / shadow day reviews during the interview process to ensure all parties are good to move on with a potential employee.In-Store Promotions and Events :
Plan and execute in-store promotions and events to drive traffic and increase sales.Ensure all promotional materials are displayed correctly, and that staff is trained on how to communicate these offers to customers.Track the success of promotions daily and make real-time adjustments to pricing or inventory as needed.Daily Success Metrics
