Job Summary
This position is part of the Technical Support team and is responsible for field service across the University Campus as it pertains to computer hardware, software, and related peripherals for both Windows and Mac operating systems. This includes substantial customer support for University employees, including support for desktop and mobile hardware, printing devices, and other peripherals. In addition, the Computer Support Specialist will support computer classrooms and lab spaces as needed. The Computer Support Specialist works cooperatively with members of Technical Services and the Help Desk, along with other Information Services staff to ensure the highest quality service, and the quick resolution of critical technical support issues serving the campus community.
Core Duties
- Maintain computer equipment and peripherals for employees and departmental areas across the University campus.
- Assist University employees with hardware and software issues via scheduled appointments and urgent requests as required, providing excellent customer service through responsive, transparent support. Provide on-site support with the ability to navigate around the University campus carrying materials and supplies, driving University carts and vehicles.
- Perform back-end account management tasks including active directory / email account creation and termination, Cisco telephone and voicemail configuration, network share management and, virtual machine management.
- Set up and maintain printers and print queues.
- Assist with identifying computer assets for refresh.
- Work as an integrated member of the Technical Support Team. Work in conjunction with the Technical Support Manager on training and policies.
- Create and maintain department documentation regarding hardware and software support.
- Understand the basic operation of VOIP phones and support set up and deployment.
- Consult with customers regarding hardware requirements while advising and making decisions based on cost efficiency, functionality and long-term usage.
- Provide support to the telecom / networking team as needed.
- Assist the desktop engineer with computer imaging, bench work, and technology upgrades.
- Stay current on technology trends and make recommendations regarding solutions to identified problems.
- Provide best-effort support with student equipment where appropriate.
