Location : This position will be based out of our Fishers office. This is not a remote position.
Job Summary : The Senior Project Accountant will be responsible for supporting assigned construction projects by delivering timely, accurate, and meaningful financial information. Responsibilities include processing billings and payables in compliance with company procedures, ensuring accurate allocations and payments, and coordinating closely with project teams to meet established deadlines. Working independently to achieve measurable objectives, the Senior Project Accountant will lead the work of others, manage complex projects and Joint Ventures, and provide operational planning expertise. This role collaborates extensively with internal teams including Project Managers, Project Accountants, and Executives, and external stakeholders such as owners, architects, vendors, and subcontractors.
Senior Project Accountant Key Responsibilities :
- Complete billing invoices for multiple contract types (lump sum, Cost Plus / T&M) and process monthly Pay Applications with required owner reporting.
- Respond to tactical accounting questions; escalate to CFO or appropriate stakeholder as needed.
- Represent Accounting in evaluating and updating processes with other departments; proactively identify challenges and coordinate solutions with CFO.
- Monitor and balance Project Accountant workloads to ensure effective project support.
- Handle cash receipts deposits, CMiC postings, and review job cost activity for accurate coding.
- Perform AP invoice imports from Timber Scan, including AIA invoices and lien waivers; clarify questionable invoices and obtain approvals.
- Manage project setup in accounting software, import estimates to Project Management Software, establish SOV and original budget.
- Process ERP integrations for purchase orders, contracts, and change orders; resolve errors and confirm with Project Management.
- Answer vendor inquiries, follow up on outstanding receivables, and complete owner / client / bank lien waivers.
- Collect and review subcontractor lien waivers; make job cost adjustments and perform project close procedures.
- Coordinate document review for subcontractor compliance; ensure timely payments for positive cash flow.
- Reconcile job cost and A / R accounts monthly; provide billing and cost accruals; proactively manage accounts receivable.
- Prepare petty cash checks, collaborate on project reporting, and participate in cost review meetings.
- Perform other project accounting duties as requested.
Qualifications :
High School diploma or equivalent; College Degree in Accounting or related discipline preferred.Minimum 7 years of work experience, including 3 years of project accounting (internships included). BA / BS / AS in Accounting may substitute for up to 4 years of experience.Ability to work independently, set workflow priorities, and provide accurate, timely project support.Ability to obtain notary in the state of employment.Capable of handling high-level responsibilities such as Joint Ventures and complex projects.Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and customer service skills.Knowledge of PM software (Procore preferred) and accounting software (CMiC preferred), or willingness to learn.Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Excel, and PDF editing tools (Adobe, Bluebeam).Advanced knowledge of construction accounting principles (financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, GL, AP, SOV, forecasting) or willingness to become proficient.Understanding of AIA 702 / 703 billing forms and basic knowledge of AIA Contracts (A401, A121, A111), or willingness to gain.When you join Hagerman,you will help build the future, so it only makes sense that we invest in you.Hagermans complete benefits package for regular, full-time employees includes :
