Florida Vision Institute is searching for an energetic, patient focused, team oriented Lead Surgical Coordinator for our multi-specialty ophthalmology practice in Stuart, Florida. Our Top Candidates will have at least two years of surgical coordinator experience, preferably in an optometry/ophthalmology practice.

The Lead Surgical Coordinator schedules, pre-certifies, verifies and documents procedure for Operating Room and Ambulatory Surgery Center as well as outside hospitals and surgery centers for patients. Work with other departments to schedule patients in a timely manner assuring that registrations and insurance information are correct.

Responsibilities

• Explain treatment procedures and review applicable options including doctor recommendations for optimal visual outcome.
• Arrange and confirm all pre-certification requirements including insurance prior-authorizations, referrals, and medical clearances.
• Verify insurance information, accurately calculate, and collect all payments related to surgery including copays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket fees.
• Set surgery date and schedules all pre- and post-operative appointments related to the surgery.
• Perform pre-surgical ophthalmological Ascans as directed by the ophthalmologist.
• Act as a liaison between all surgical centers, surgical assistants, and surgeons regarding surgical schedules.
• Perform credentialing for ASC and re-credentialing of surgeons.
• Train (new surgical coordinators/remedial training for established surgical coordinators/explore new technologies/new lens options, etc.)
• Coordinate surgical coordinator’s schedules.
• Update all surgical counseling forms as needed.
• Organize and conduct quarterly surgical coordinator/surgical assistant meetings.
• Provide day to day supervision of the surgical coordinating team including active performance management.
• Strategize and collaborate with all internal teams to foster a culture of service and continuous quality improvement.
• Assist the management team with performance evaluations for team members.
• Ensure patient privacy and confidentiality by following the guidelines set forth in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
• Consult with the Director of Operations on problems and interpretation of policies to ensure patient needs are met.
• Develop and implement protocols for continuing education of staff.
• Provide back-up support to other surgical coordinating staff as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Previous ophthalmic office experience preferred but at least knowledge of surgical procedures, medical terminology and insurance benefits.
• Must have at least 2+ years of relevant experience in a supervisory or management position; preferably in an ophthalmology practice.
• Travel to other offices to meet the demands of the business
• Must demonstrate the ability to lead a team to success.
• Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Must exhibit the character and capability to train and mentor team members.
• Be a well-organized, team-player with great attention to detail.
• Execute duties of position in a professional and courteous manner
• Ability to work accurately and display good judgment under pressure.
• Demonstrate superior computer skills.
