Hydrocarbon Extraction Specialist

Location : Rochester, NY

Reports To : Director of Extraction & Processing

Pay Rate : $22-$25 / hour

Position Summary

The Hydrocarbon Extraction Specialist is responsible for carrying out hydrocarbon extraction and post-processing operations, including recovery, purging, decarboxylation, and refinement into premium cannabis extracts. This role ensures compliance with all regulatory standards while driving efficiency, safety, and product quality. Working closely with the Director of Extraction & Processing, the Specialist supports production goals, maintains SOPs, and accurately records activities in BioTrack, Canix, and other required systems.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Quality

  • Execute fresh frozen flower packing, extraction, post-processing, and oil storage.
  • Support R&D for new extract types (e.g., badders, diamonds, shatters, isolates).
  • Maintain strict quality control and track yields, waste, and inventory.

Equipment & Safety

  • Operate, maintain, and repair hydrocarbon extraction equipment.
  • Ensure safe handling of natural gases in compliance with OSHA, EPA, and OCM standards.
  • Monitor refrigerated trailers, storage units, and facility environmental conditions.
  • Team Development

  • Train technicians on hydrocarbon equipment, SOPs, and compliance protocols.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and performance.
  • Inventory & Supply Chain

  • Monitor consumables, raw materials, and tools; place orders as needed.
  • Prepare product samples and maintain accurate data entry.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in manufacturing or extraction (cannabis, food, beverage, or dietary supplements preferred).
  • Proven track record in production environments.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, cGMP, FDA food code, SQF, OSHA, EPA, PPE, and NY OCM regulations.
  • Proficient in BioTrack, Canix, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to read and apply technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
