Job Title
Under limited supervision, performs inspections for residential and commercial projects through all phases of construction. Fosters and develops a culture of positive customer service in working relationships with key staff, departmental employees, other governmental organizations, and citizens. Must be able to perform work with a broad framework of the general public, exercising judgment in defining work objectives and determining methods and systems to meet objectives. Applicants must be meticulous, very organized and focused on the details.
Examples Of Duties
Performs field inspections relating to ongoing building construction, residential construction, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical inspections, as required.
Collaborates with state agencies to ensure City compliance with all applicable environmental and health rules and regulations; enforces Texas Accessibility Standards.
Interprets applicable codes and regulations to developers, contractors, property owners, and the general public, as needed; receives and responds to requests for assistance.
Attends departmental staff meetings, as required.
Performs computer data entry to record and retrieve department information and to prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents.
All other duties, as assigned.

Physical / requirements : Requires the ability to perform on-site field inspections requiring a moderate amount of physical exertion to stoop, crouch, climb and lift; ability to work around electrical currents and building materials in a safe manner; sufficient hand-eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as drafting, use of hand tools, data entry, calculators and basic office equipment.
Environmental Requirements : Tasks require occasional exposure to adverse environmental conditions, temperature and weather extremes, traffic and construction hazards, electrical currents, noise extremes, etc.
Sensory Requirements : Tasks require color, sound, odor, depth and visual perception and discrimination, as well as oral communications ability.
Emergency Operation Classification : TIER 2 Employees not at work are responsible for maintaining contact with their supervisor regarding assignments, to stay abreast of the situation by monitoring radio and television for instructions, and by calling the Emergency Operations Center daily.
