Duties / Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, patient-centered medical care including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute, chronic, and preventive health needs within specialty.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated care.
  • Perform specialty-specific diagnostic, therapeutic, and / or surgical procedures consistent with training and credentialing.
  • Contribute to teaching, mentorship, and professional development of medical staff, students, and trainees.
  • Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical innovation initiatives to advance healthcare delivery.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12 / 31 / 1959
  • Board Certification in the specialty of the position applied for, or active pursuit to become board certified with an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) member board if there is a lapse in certification or after residency
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630 requiring contact or control over Indian children; the agency must ensure that hires have not been found guilty of certain crimes
  • Immunization policy compliance for healthcare workers; vaccine exemption requests may be available
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check

  • Background Investigation

    If selected, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Continued employment is contingent upon the investigation outcome and suitability for Federal employment. False statements may lead to withdrawal of offer or termination.

    Qualifications

    To qualify, your resume must show sufficient experience and / or education to perform the duties of the position. Experience includes paid and unpaid work, including volunteer service. You must clearly identify duties and hours for each position. The Hiring Manager may allow eligibility based on active professional training programs to be completed within nine months.

    Basic Requirement(s)

    Degree : Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a U.S. or Canadian school, accredited by recognized bodies.

    Degree from Foreign Medical School : If applicable, must be equivalent to U.S. accreditation via ECFMG certification or other recognized pathways.

    Licensure

    Current, active, full, and unrestricted medical license or registration to practice as a Physician in the United States or territories.

    Graduate Training

  • At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience after medical degree, including internship, residency, or equivalent training.
  • Programs must be recognized by accrediting bodies in the U.S. or Canada.
  • Selective Factor (SF)

    Essential to perform duties. Must meet one of : Board Certification in the specialty, Residency diploma / certificate within the last three years, or active pursuit of Board Certification if three or more years post-residency.

  • Evidence of accreditation for attended schools; verify at the U.S. Department of Education site

  • Federal employees earn annual leave based on service length. Credit for related non-federal experience may be offered for leave accrual
  • This position may be covered by a bargaining unit; probationary period may apply
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required
  • Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized with a service agreement
  • Student Loan Repayment Programs may be available; details at IHS and NHSC
