Job Objective :
Provides clinical leadership, education, and oversight of the hospital-wide Sepsis Program. Responsible for ensuring compliance with evidence-based sepsis protocols, improving early identification and treatment of sepsis, and enhancing patient outcomes. Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, monitors performance metrics, and leads quality improvement initiatives to meet regulatory requirements and organizational goals.
Job Description : Education :
Required : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s degree in Nursing
Licensure / Certification :
Required : Current California RN License; Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Preferred : Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Certified Emergency Room Nurse (CEN) or Certification in Infection Control (CIC)
Experience :
Required : Three (3) years of acute care clinical experience, including at least 2 years in critical care, emergency, or another high-acuity setting
Preferred : Prior experience in quality improvement, program coordination, or sepsis initiatives; leadership or educator experience strongly preferred
Essential Responsibilities :
Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
Leads the implementation and ongoing development of the Sepsis Program.
Ensures compliance with evidence-based guidelines and regulatory standards related to sepsis care.
Develops and maintains hospital-wide sepsis protocols and care pathways.
Collaborates with medical staff, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to improve sepsis outcomes.
Monitors and analyzes sepsis-related performance data and quality indicators through chart review, quality reporting sources, and other related sources.
Serves as a clinical expert and resource for sepsis management across all patient care areas.
Provides ongoing education and training to nursing and medical staff on early identification, screening, and treatment of sepsis.
Collaborates with the education department to develop and deliver competency-based training programs.
Promotes best practices and timely interventions to support optimal patient outcomes.
Leads quality improvement initiatives aimed at reducing sepsis-related mortality and complications.
Reviews sepsis cases for protocol adherence, timeliness of care, and documentation accuracy.
Identifies trends and opportunities for improvement and develop action plans.
Prepares and presents data and reports to hospital committees and leadership.
Ensures ongoing compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state / federal regulations.
Coordinates required data submission for sepsis performance metrics.
Participates in surveys, inspections, and audits related to sepsis program compliance.
Maintains readiness for regulatory review at all times.
Facilitates effective communication between departments to support coordinated sepsis care.
Acts as a liaison between bedside clinicians, leadership, and external partners.
Supports the integration of sepsis care strategies into clinical workflows and electronic health records.
Represents the program at organizational and community meetings as needed.
Participates in research and evidence-based practice initiatives related to sepsis.
Stays current on emerging sepsis guidelines, literature, and best practices.
Performs other duties as assigned.
