Swimming Pool Manager (TEMPORARY - Part-Time, 1500 hour, PERS eligible)
This year-round, part-time position is budgeted to start at $22.98 per hour and typically offers approximately 30 hours per week with weekend work required. The role oversees the daily operations of two municipal aquatic facilities within the City of Escondido's Community Services Department.
Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain service standards over Lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors.
- Assist the Recreation Supervisor with program development, facility billing, evaluating programs, revenue projection, cost management, and promotional efforts.
- Oversee daily operations, including lessons, facility rentals, and recreational swim.
- Schedule and supervise lifeguards and swim instructors across two locations.
- Lead hiring, training, and evaluation of part-time aquatics staff.
- Provide on-deck supervision during lessons, rentals, and recreational swim.
- Assign to a designated desk at City Hall for administrative duties.
- Deliver excellent customer service over the phone and in person.
- Maintain operational records, reports, and office materials.
- Ensure compliance with pool rules, health and safety regulations.
- Monitor and enforce municipal and American Red Cross policies and standards.
- Conduct basic water quality testing.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements : strong lifeguarding and instructional skills; experience managing a team of five or more staff for at least two seasons; ability to assign, oversee, and evaluate staff performance; quick-thinking and calm under pressure in emergencies; physically capable of lifting heavy objects as required.Certifications (required) : Valid California Driver's License; American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (within 30 days of employment); Title 22 First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (or equivalent).Certifications are not required at time of interview but are required upon hire.Highly desirable : American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI); American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI); experience training swim instructors.Additional Information
