Writer Editor - Program Evaluation Communications

Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Writer Editor to support a critical program evaluation project focused on the Colorectal Cancer Control Program (CRCCP) for the CDC. This position plays a vital role in translating complex program evaluation research into clear, accurate, and accessible scientific documents that inform public health practice and policy. The ideal candidate will work at the intersection of public health research, health systems implementation, and evidence-based interventions to help reduce colorectal cancer (CRC) mortality in underserved populations. Project Context This position supports a comprehensive program evaluation aimed at building an evidence base for improving CRCCP implementation and increasing CRC screening uptake in settings with low screening prevalence. The evaluation focuses on : Assessing effectiveness and cost of evidence-based interventions (EBIs) to increase CRC screening and follow-up colonoscopy Evaluating health system selection processes, screening test choices, and sustainability factors Identifying long-term effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of interventions to increase screening and reduce CRC mortality Key Responsibilities Write and edit scientific documents including program evaluation reports, research briefs, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and policy documents related to CRC screening interventions and outcomes Translate complex program evaluation findings, cost-effectiveness analyses, and implementation research into clear, audience-appropriate formats for diverse stakeholders (researchers, clinicians, program implementers, policymakers) Develop technical materials and deliverables that communicate evidence-based intervention strategies and program evaluation methodologies Analyze subject matter related to program evaluation, health systems research, cost-effectiveness analysis, and cancer screening implementation to plan clear and accurate presentation of materials Collaborate with epidemiologists, health economists, program evaluators, and implementation scientists to ensure technical accuracy of content Adapt writing style and format to various mediums including scientific journals, web content, fact sheets, executive summaries, and presentations Perform comprehensive final reviews of materials for technical accuracy, proper organization, clarity, emphasis, and adherence to CDC and scientific editorial standards Ensure consistency in terminology, style, and messaging across all project deliverables Manage editorial workflow and timelines for multiple concurrent documents and publications Develop materials for diverse audiences including public health practitioners, healthcare systems, community organizations, and policymakers Ensure cultural appropriateness and health literacy considerations in all communications Support dissemination of evaluation findings to advance evidence-based cancer control practices Required Qualifications Education : Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Education, Public Health, Health Services Research, or related field Experience : 5+ years of relevant professional experience in scientific writing, editing, or health communications Preferred Qualifications : Experience writing or editing program evaluation reports, implementation science research, or health services research Familiarity with cancer prevention, screening programs, or chronic disease prevention Knowledge of evidence-based interventions and cost-effectiveness analysis Experience with peer-reviewed scientific publications Understanding of health equity and working with underserved populations Proficiency with citation management software and collaborative writing platforms
