TITLE : Senior Steam Turbine Aerodynamic Engineer

TYPE : Direct Hire

LOCATION : Lunenburg, MA

ONSITE / REMOTE / HYBRID : Hybrid

START DATE : October / November 2025

SHIFT : Day

We are looking for a Senior Steam Turbine Aerodynamic Engineer. Act as the lead expert in aerodynamic design for steam turbine flow paths. Guide the development of nozzle shapes and blade (bucket) profiles to promote stable, high-performance flow throughout the turbine system.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take ownership of aerodynamic design elements, including :

Sealing strategies and packing leakage control

  • Exhaust plenum geometries
  • Nozzle and blade cascade configurations
  • Advanced 3D blade designs for later turbine stages with high reaction levels
  • Valve and inlet flow channel optimization
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to align aerodynamic objectives with engineering constraints, such as :
  • Integrating aerodynamic performance within acoustic design limitations

  • Balancing performance targets with structural requirements based on stress analysis
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline
  • At least 5 years of experience designing flow paths for turbines or similar turbomachinery handling compressible fluids
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Deep understanding of compressible fluid flow, including use of potential flow models and lumped parameter methods
  • Strong background in nozzle and blade geometry design, including experience with complex 3D twisted and tapered profiles
  • Proficient in designing the full steam path layout
  • Skilled in using commercial RANS CFD tools, particularly :
  • Ansys BladeModeler, TurboGrid, CFX

  • Ansys Fluent
  • Exposure to defense sector or Navy Nuclear applications is ideal
  • Experience building and running parameterized models for aerodynamic and mechanical trade-off studies is ideal
  • Ability to apply CFD to a range of compressible flow challenges, such as airflow within rotating machines or power electronics enclosures is preferred
  • Familiarity with Ansys Fluent Suite for thermal and flow analysis is preferred
