Responsibilities :

Develop and implement daily, weekly, and monthly activity schedules tailored to residents with dementia.

Ensure activities are varied, engaging, and suitable for different stages of dementia.

Adapt activities to meet individual residents’ needs and preferences.

Encourage and assist residents in participating in activities.

Provide one-on-one support to residents who require additional assistance.

Foster a positive and stimulating environment to enhance residents' well-being.

Assess residents’ interests, abilities, and needs through observation and direct interaction.

Document resident participation and responses to activities.

Report any changes in residents' conditions to the Activities Director or nursing staff.

Work closely with nursing staff, therapists, and other aides to coordinate care and activities.

Communicate effectively with residents’ families to provide updates and receive input on care plans.

Involve volunteers and train them to assist with activities.

Ensure the safety of residents during activities by following established protocols and guidelines.

Maintain a clean and organized activity area.

Adhere to all nursing home policies, state regulations, and ethical standards.

Participate in ongoing training and education related to dementia care and activity planning.

Stay updated on best practices and new research in dementia care and therapeutic activities.

Requirements :

High school diploma or equivalent; additional training in dementia care or therapeutic recreation preferred.

Previous experience working with elderly individuals, particularly those with dementia.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to improve the quality of life for residents with dementia.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical ability to assist residents with mobility and participate in activities.

The job may require standing, walking, and assisting residents for extended periods.

May require occasional evening or weekend shifts depending on activity schedules.

Compensation :

Rate will be commensurate with experience.
