THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation, Engineering District 8 is on the lookout for a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor to ensure the effective execution and compliance of transportation construction projects. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will serve as the Inspector-In-Charge for a highway construction project that involves a limited range of work operations, or you may assist on a larger project by overseeing specific tasks. Your responsibilities will include supervising the inspection of materials and workmanship to ensure compliance with contract requirements and established standards. You will verify cuts and fills, check elevation grades and structure stakeouts, and oversee the inspection and placement of all materials. Additionally, you will interpret contract requirements for contractors and subordinates, instructing them on sampling, testing, and inspection techniques.
Your role will also involve making calculations and sketches to help resolve any field issues that arise. You will be responsible for preparing reports, maintaining necessary records, and participating in constructability and scheduling meetings. Furthermore, you will compile documentation for work order justifications, prepare and submit work orders and construction estimates, and track material certifications to ensure compliance. You will assist the Assistant Construction Manager or Engineer in making field decisions regarding alterations to plans, quantities, methods, and completion dates, while also providing technical guidance to address discrepancies and ensure the project is executed as intended.
