Aera has multiple proprietary delivery platforms including - targeted lipid nanoparticles (tLNPs), antibody oligonucleotide conjugates (AOCs) and protein nanoparticles (PNPs), - that are being developed to enable next-generation genetic medicines across a range of therapeutic modalities and disease areas. These platforms have the potential to overcome the limitations of today's delivery technologies and expand the application of genetic medicines.

How will your role make an impact at Aera Therapeutics? We are looking for a Sr. Automation Engineer to join our Laboratory Technologies team here at Area. In this role, you will be responsible for the design and optimization of high-throughput workflows by automating lab processes, integrating informatics tools, and collaborating with scientists and vendors to improve efficiency, data quality, and scalability across scientific teams. You will be reporting to the Director, RNA Technologies and be expected to work onsite five days per week.

You will :

  • Design and implement high-throughput automated workflows to support protein and nucleic acid production, nanoparticle formulation, diverse purification solutions and analytical assays.
  • Partner with scientists and cross-functional teams to adapt bench protocols, develop screening strategies, and assess product function, stability, and solubility at scale.
  • Identify and resolve workflow bottlenecks to improve throughput and data quality across automated systems.
  • Integrate laboratory software and informatics tools for data acquisition, analysis, and visualization.
  • Create documentation, train end users, and provide ongoing support for automation systems and workflows.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to evaluate and deploy new automation technologies that advance Aera's lab infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and support automation deployments at Aera

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or computer science with 8+ years' of relevant experience or Master's degree with 6+ years' experience
  • Hands on experience with a variety of liquid handlers (i.e. Hamilton, Tecan, Biomek, Lynx)
  • Experience with laboratory automation integration and dynamic schedulers (i.e. GBG, Cellario)
  • Programming experience in a relevant or related language (python, C#, SQL preferred)
  • Experience with modern software practices including git, APIs, and cloud infrastructure
  • Experience with connecting instrumentation to laboratory information managements systems (LIMS), particularly Benchling)
  • Experience designing experiments and interpreting data in at least one of following areas : microbiology, molecular biology, mammalian in vitro cell culture and analytical assay development.

  • The approximate salary range for this role is $149,000 - $166,000.

    Our salary ranges are determined by job scope, level, and location. The range displayed on this job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position as posted. Within the range, individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and business need. In addition to the base salary, eligible employees will have an opportunity to participate in an annual cash bonus, equity incentives, and a robust benefits offering that includes health insurance, 401k retirement plan with company match, paid sick and vacation time, life and disability insurance, and commuting expense reimbursement.
