We are a dynamic, project-based company that is redefining how the world builds.

We are seeking an experiencedDrywall Installation, Finishing, and Painting Expert from the United States or Canada to provide supplemental training, quality oversight, and process optimization. The successful candidate will spend up to 8 weeks on-site at our factory in China to ensure our housing modules meet the highest North American standards for quality, durability, and aesthetics.

This is a temporary, high-impact consulting role requiring deep expertise in construction best practices, particularly within a controlled factory environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a comprehensive review and improvement of all drywall and painting processes, including :

1. Design & Material Review

  • Review and Validate : Critically examine current drywall assembly designs, joint details, corner bead application, and substrate preparations to ensure compliance with relevant US / Canadian building codes and best practices for modular construction.
  • Material Selection & In-house Testing : Evaluate and recommend optimal drywall, joint compounds, tapes, texture products, and paint systems readily available in the local market, suitable for export, and meeting high-quality and performance standards. Establishing in-house protocols for mock-up system application, coating adhesion testing, and reporting test results will be an essential aspect of the role.

2. Process Optimization & Training

  • Process Mapping : Review and revise the current workflow for drywall installation, finishing (taping, mudding, sanding), and painting within the modular production line.
  • Best Practices Training : Review and improve upon the existing training program. Deliver hands-on, practical training to factory staff on North American installation and finishing techniques to minimize cracking, telegraphing, and other common finish defects, focusing on achieving a Level 4 and Level 5 finish quality.
  • Tooling & Equipment : Evaluate existing tools and equipment (e.g., automatic taping tools, sanding equipment, plaster and paint sprayers) and recommend upgrades, additions, or modifications to improve process efficiency and consistency.
  • 3. Quality Assurance & Standards Development

  • Quality Control (QC) Program : Review and enhance the current QC inspection points, criteria, and documentation processes for drywall and paint application.
  • Defect Root Cause Analysis : Identify and troubleshoot common defects (e.g., fastener pops, cracking, blistering, poor adhesion) and develop preventative measures.
  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) : Develop clear, visual, and concise SOPs for all critical steps in the drywall and painting processes.
  • Qualifications

  • Nationality / Residency : Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, Canada, Australia, or Western Europe.
  • Experience : A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in high-quality commercial or residential drywall installation, finishing, and painting. Extensive experience with Level 4 and Level 5 finish work is essential.
  • Technical Expertise :
  • Deep knowledge of various drywall systems, including moisture-resistant and fire-rated assembly construction.

  • Expertise in texture application, acoustic sealing, and joint reinforcement techniques.
  • Comprehensive understanding of paint systems, including proper surface preparation, primer selection, application methods (brush, roll, spray), and coating specifications.
  • Modular / Factory Experience (Preferred) : Experience working on modular, prefabricated, or production-line construction projects is a significant asset.
  • Training & Communication : Proven ability to effectively train, mentor, and communicate technical information to diverse, non-native English-speaking teams. Not to worry, our team is diverse and has extensive experience working with North American consultants and tradespersons.
  • Travel : Must be willing and able to travel and reside in China for the duration of the 6-8 week assignment.
  • Compensation and Logistics

  • Duration : Up to 8 weeks on-site, with potential for follow-up remote consultation.
  • Compensation : Competitive consulting fee commensurate with experience and expertise.
  • Logistics : All travel, visa, accommodations, and per diem expenses will be covered by the manufacturer.
