Obstetrics Technician at Providence Health and Services summary : The Obstetrics Technician supports obstetrical care by assisting in C-section procedures and vaginal deliveries under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include preparing sterile equipment, passing instruments during surgery, maintaining sterile techniques, and performing unit and clerical duties. The role requires certification as a surgical technologist and Basic Life Support (BLS) credentials, emphasizing patient-focused care within a healthcare system. Description The Maternity Technician Nurse functions within his / her scope of practice under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse to provide indirect care function as related to the obstetrical patient. Responsible to function as the "scrub technologist" in the C-section suite and other clinical areas, which consists of the selection and set-up of the sterile table with instruments, supplies and equipment; the passing of instruments to the surgeon during the procedure; maintaining sterile technique and caring for instruments following the procedure.
