We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform for external customers. Our infrastructure is supported by more than 300 datacenters around the world that enable services for more than 1 billion customers in over 90 countries. Cloud Manufacturing Operations and Fulfillment (CMOF) organization within CSCP manages business operations performance and supplies hardware to the datacenters. We are seeking an experienced Principal Cloud Decommissioning Manager to join our team. Responsibilities

• Lead cross-functional programs to replace aging hardware infrastructure with modern, performant systems across global data centers.
• Define and drive the long-term hardware lifecycle strategy, refresh cadence, and decommissioning roadmaps.
• Partner with infrastructure and capacity planning teams to align refresh programs with growth, utilization, and power / cooling constraints.
• Design and govern secure, scalable decommissioning processes for servers, storage, networking, and peripheral systems.
• Ensure zero-defect execution of asset retirement, including data / media sanitization, chain of custody, and vendor coordination for recycling / disposal.
• Drive tooling and automation efforts to improve asset tracking, refresh scheduling, and decom execution.
• Monitor and analyze fleet health metrics (hardware age, failure rates, refresh velocity) to inform planning cycles.
• Act as the technical point of contact for leadership, engineering, operations, supply chain, and compliance teams regarding hardware lifecycle efforts.
• Partner with internal teams on hardware availability, lead times, compatibility issues, and transitions.
• Communicate program goals, risks, and outcomes clearly to both technical and executive audiences.
• Ensure programs comply with internal policies and external regulations (e.g., data destruction, e-waste, environmental / safety requirements).
• Identify and champion opportunities to streamline hardware lifecycle operationsreduce manual work, minimize downtime, and improve sustainability outcomes.

Preferred qualifications :

Technical Solution Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
