Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Construction Surveying and Layout Specialist with a strong background in civil construction, transmission, and substation projects . In this role, you will oversee all surveying and layout activities for heavy civil work including grading, foundations, utilities, concrete, drainage, and site development. The position requires a deep understanding of construction surveying technology, field engineering, and heavy civil means and methods .
You will coordinate field crews, manage contract surveyors, and ensure the accuracy, safety, and efficiency of surveying operations across multiple capital projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently while supporting project teams to deliver on schedule and within budget.
This position is based in Georgia and involves frequent travel throughout the state. Candidates must be able to report weekly to the Forest Park, GA office . The standard work schedule consists of four 10-hour days (Monday–Thursday) with occasional storm-duty assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and perform construction surveying and layout for civil construction projects involving transmission substations and transmission lines.
- Coordinate and schedule contract survey personnel and ensure compliance with company and OSHA safety standards.
- Provide surveying expertise during all project phases — from pre-construction through project closeout.
- Develop, review, and verify survey data, site control, staking layouts, and construction calculations .
- Train and mentor team members on the use of GNSS, total stations, levels, and other surveying equipment .
- Interface with engineering, design, and construction management teams to ensure constructability and accuracy.
- Attend pre-construction and project progress meetings to provide technical input on layout and field engineering.
- Manage survey documentation, reports, timesheets, and invoices in company systems (CATEE / CAMP, TEAMS, etc.).
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, Topcon Magnet, and Primavera P6 for layout design, data processing, and project tracking.
- Ensure all work aligns with Georgia Technical Standards for Surveying, ASTM, ACI, OSHA, and NPDES requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred;OR 10+ years of relevant civil construction surveying experience.Georgia Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure preferred.Proven expertise in GNSS, total stations, differential leveling, and construction layout .Strong understanding of civil sitework, foundations, concrete, and utility layout techniques .Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Survey, Topcon Magnet, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and Procore .Experience managing multiple surveying projects and contract personnel .Knowledge of Stage Gate process , construction documentation, and cost estimating a plus.NPDES / GASWCC (Blue Card) certification preferred or ability to obtain within 6 weeks.Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills with a commitment to safety and quality.
