Laborer Chemical Applc Spclst

Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Grounds the Laborer and Chemical Application Specialist is responsible for applying all pesticides and fertilizers inside and outside in accordance with all applicable local state and federal regulations. In addition the Laborer and Chemical Application Specialist may be required to perform all duties within the Laborer job description to include but not limited to landscape maintenance snow removal trash collection and disposal furniture and equipment moving construction labor and support for other Facilities Management Department Personnel.

Responsibilities:
In addition to primary assignment of applying pesticides and fertilizers may be assigned by the Grounds Supervisor to complete all duties and responsibilities as listed within the Laborer job description as required.



Plans and organizes assigned work and fill out time reports daily.



Plants cultivates water fertilizes weeds edges mows trims sweeps rakes dig mulches prunes shears and performs other functions of a grounds laborer.



Cleans up litter debris and other refuse from grounds rooftops gutters window wells sidewalks driveways storm drains and trash receptacles.



Operates various gasoline diesel and electrically powered tools and equipment used in landscape maintenance construction and facility maintenance work.



Operates light trucks and other vehicles up to 26000 pound GVW.



Performs snow removal sanding and chemical snow and ice melting operations using hand and powered tools equipment and vehicles.



Performs construction demolition work using various hand and power tools and clean up construction sites of waste and debris.



Provides support labor for other Facilities Management trades and RIH support departments.



Performs various masonry repair tasks such as mixing cutting and installing concrete and mortar patches brick concrete block structural tile and concrete flatwork.



Transports loads lifts and places large bulky and/or heavy furniture fixtures equipment boxes and crates utilizing manual lifting moving equipment and light rigging as may be necessary.



Performs light assembly of items such as furniture fixtures and shelves and install in designated locations.



Performs preventative maintenance and light repairs on motor vehicles and Grounds Department tools and equipment such as fueling lubrication cleaning washing polishing blade sharpening and minor adjustments.



Attends staff and training meetings as required and participate in Fire and Disaster Programs as directed.



Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Rhode Island Hospital and Facilities Management Department policies and procedures.



Must have a good driving record meet and maintain the appropriate and valid driver licenses in order to operate motor vehicles as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and in accordance with the Lifespan Fleet Risk Control Policy.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of all local state and federal regulations as applicable to the application of pesticides and fertilizer.



Ability to operate and perform basic maintenance of trucks up to 26000 pounds GVW loader/backhoe utility tractor skid loader lawn mowing equipment and attachments for same including snow plows and sanders.



Knowledge of safe use and maintenance of other hand and power equipment used in grounds maintenance.



Knowledge of proper planting techniques common plant names and general horticultural practices.



Good health adequate physical strength endurance and dexterity to perform the work described.



Ability and willingness to be trained in specific areas of grounds maintenance and construction techniques as may be required.



Ability to work alone or as part of a team to complete work assignments.



Requires the ability to read write and complete simple arithmetic calculations.



Requires a minimum of 1 2 years experience having demonstrated proficiency in a variety of grounds maintenance and construction tasks operating power equipment and tools and other skills as described above.



EXPERIENCE:

Requires a valid Pesticide/Fertilizer Applicators License.



Valid Operators License and Medical Examiners card with experience of driving vehicles of 10000 26000 pounds GVW.



Requires a minimum of 1 2 years experience having demonstrated proficiency in a variety of grounds maintenance and construction tasks operating power equipment and tools and other skills as described above.



WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Will work throughout the hospital including but not limited to exterior campus patient rooms treatment areas common areas labs hazardous material storage areas and rooftops where safety of patients and visitors must be considered.



May work in equipment rooms and in restricted spaces exposed to extreme cold or high heat conditions dust dirt synthetic oils cleaning materials and aerosols fiberglass and asbestos containing materials.



Observing strict safety precautions and careful monitoring of exposure to minimize potential safety hazards.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

May be required to oversee non-certified personnel and outside contractors and vendors while performing chemical application work at Rhode Island Hospital.
