Additional Information About the Role Christian Hospital General Medicine Floor (5th Floor) This is a 28 bed unit with single rooms, but may double up if needed. Caring for all kinds of General Medicine Patients including tracheostemy, wound care, chest tubes, central lines, and more. There are no telemetry patients on this floor. Overview Christian Hospital is a full-service acute care community hospital located on 28 acres in north St. Louis County. Christian Hospital is noted for its excellence in heart services and lifesaving cardiothoracic surgery, emergency medicine, breast health services, orthopedic/spine surgery, hyperbaric wound care, pain management, vascular surgery, endocrinology, gastrointestinal care, stroke care, nephrology, therapy, radiology, urology, pulmonary care and treating sleep disorders. Northwest HealthCare, located six miles west of Christian Hospital, provides the community 24-hour emergency care, with Washington University Physicians and St. Louis Children’s Hospital providing pediatric services. Northwest HealthCare is also home to the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of full-service outpatient diagnostic and imaging services in a convenient setting. The 5th floor is the adult medical unit with a 55 bed capability. Patients admitted to the 5th floor are acutely ill patients with medical problems whose primary reasons for admission include but are not limited to Diabetes Mellitus, Renal Failure, GI Bleed, Sepsis and Pulmonary Disease. We serve a wide variety of adult and geriatric patients on the medical unit. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care. Responsibilities Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
