The City of Stockton is seeking to fill one position at the Budget Analyst II or Senior level in its central budget office. The position will be filled at the appropriate level depending upon experience. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, be proficient in a variety of business and financial computer applications, have government experience, project management experience, and possess excellent oral and written customer service skills. Prior central budgeting and accounting experience in a government entity is desirable. The incumbent will work a City of Stockton 9 / 80 schedule : 8 : 00am - 6 : 00pm Mondays through Thursdays; 8 : 00am to 5 : 00pm on working Fridays, with alternating Fridays off.

Under general direction, plans, organizes, and administers specialized City programs and projects, directs and coordinates the work of assigned professional and support staff, performs analytical analyses, prepares long-term financial forecasts, develops, monitors, and reports Citywide operating and capital improvement budgets; responsible for policy development and program planning and implementation with Citywide implications; and performs related work as assigned.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
Budget Analyst II (Confidential) is the journey-level class of the series, fully competent to perform responsible and difficult analytical and budget monitoring including financial work relative to positions and labor. This position is under general supervision in the central budget office of the City. Incumbents are expected to exercise independent judgment in selecting analytical techniques and in making sound recommendations. This class is distinguished from Senior Budget Analyst in that the latter is the highest level in this series, responsible for the development and administration of Citywide operating and capital improvement budgets.

Education- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in accounting, economics, business or public administration, or a closely related field.
Experience- A minimum of two (2) years of professional level experience in budget development and administration. Experience in a public agency is desirable.
Substitution- Extensive budget development and administration experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two year. A Master's Degree in public or business administration, economics, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of experience.
