Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) - Direct Hire Opportunity in Elmira, NY

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) to join our top-tier Clinical Engineering department in Elmira, NY. In this critical role, you'll perform advanced-level maintenance, repair, calibration, and preventive maintenance on sophisticated medical equipment and healthcare technology systems. You'll work collaboratively with clinical staff, mentor junior technicians, and coordinate with vendors to ensure optimal equipment performance and patient safety.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Duties :
- Troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate complex medical equipment including patient monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, and diagnostic systems
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance inspections and safety testing on biomedical equipment
- Install, commission, and validate new medical devices and clinical systems
- Evaluate demonstration equipment and prepare comprehensive technical performance reports
- Conduct in-service training for clinical staff on proper medical equipment operation and safety protocols
- Analyze equipment failure modes and document root cause analysis to improve reliability
- Respond to emergency equipment repair requests and participate in on-call rotation
- Ensure all medical devices meet manufacturer specifications and regulatory compliance standards
Administrative and Leadership Duties :
Maintain accurate service documentation in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)Coordinate technical projects and field service assignments with BMET team membersCollaborate with external vendors, manufacturers, and internal departments on equipment-related issuesMentor and provide technical guidance to entry-level biomedical techniciansStay current with emerging healthcare technology through continuing education and professional developmentParticipate in equipment evaluation committees and capital planning initiativesSupport regulatory compliance including Joint Commission readiness and safety inspectionsRequired Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field with 2+ years of biomedical equipment experience OR Associate's degree in Biomedical Technology, Electronics Technology, or Computer Technology with 4+ years of hands-on BMET experienceStrong working knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanics, and medical science principlesDemonstrated ability to read and interpret technical schematics, service manuals, and engineering drawingsProficiency with medical device testing equipment including electrical safety analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimetersExcellent troubleshooting skills and analytical problem-solving abilitiesStrong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with clinical staff and managementPhysical ability to lift and transport medical equipment safely (up to 50 lbs)Valid driver's license for occasional travel between facilitiesAbility to work flexible hours for equipment access and emergency on-call supportPreferred Qualifications
