Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking applicants for a part-time Program Lab Assistant to support an ARCPOWER Grant-funded workforce training initiative. This three-year position will assist faculty in delivering high-quality, hands-on instruction within skilled trades programs, with a focus on precision machining.
Position Summary: The Program Lab Assistant will support faculty in the execution of experiential, hands-on lab activities within skilled trades programs, specifically in Precision Machining and Advanced Precision Machining. This role is essential in helping ensure that lab environments are safe, organized, and conducive to student learning.
The Lab Assistant will work directly with instructors and students in both manual machining (lathe and mill) and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) environments, assisting with equipment setup, lab preparation, and student support during practical exercises.
Key Responsibilities:
Special Assignments - May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications - Relevant industry experience in precision machining. Experience with manual machining equipment (lathe and mill). Experience with CNC machining processes and equipment. Knowledge of shop safety practices and procedures. Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Additional Considerations - Certificate or degree in Precision Machining or related field. Experience in a teaching lab, training environment, or apprenticeship setting. Familiarity with advanced machining techniques and technologies.
